The HKIBIM Award 2021 presentation ceremony ceremony has been successfully held on 7 Oct 2022 in The Langham. We are honour to have Ms Winnie HO, JP, Secretary for Housing as our Guest of Honor. [BIM Project: Government Projects Gold Award in HKIBIM Award 2021]
Reprovisioning Of Fu Shan Public Mortuary At Sha Tin

The new Fu Shan Public Mortuary building at the Site in Fu Shan, Sha Tin with an approximate site area of 7,500 m2, comprising with the construction of a 7-storey mortuary building (approximately 31m high above ground level) to provide nine cold rooms and one deep freezer with a total storage capacity of 830 bodies, eight autopsy suites, other functional rooms and ancillary areas such as body receipt and dispatch area, encoffining rooms, offices, etc. BIM included information management, collaborative working, graphical data models and asset data. It is successful to manage and create the building data during the construction project data and assets life cycle by single sources of truth.

Central Kowloon Route – Buildings, Electrical And Mechanical (E&m) Works

Central Kowloon Route (CKR), a 4.7km-long dual three-lane trunk road that will enhance connectivity between the east and west Kowloon districts and relieve congestion. The scope of work for this contract includes construction of tunnel ventilation and administration buildings, electrical and mechanical works. The delivery methodology incorporates an integrated digital project delivery approach making use of smart and digital construction techniques including the adoption of extensive DfMA and off-site prefabrication to improve efficiency, overall safety and quality on the project. BIM and innovative digital construction and asset management systems will be used to support a collaborative approach on the project.

Integrated Waste Management Facilities Phase 1

The scope of works of the contract comprises the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Integrated Waste Management Facilities (IWMF) Phase 1 which will be on an artificial island near Shek Kwu Chau to treat 3,000 tons/day of municipal solid waste (MSW) by moving grate incineration technology. The design, construction and maintenance of the artificial island shall also be part of the scope of works of the contract.

O·park2

OPARK2 is  a  design-build-operate project  of the Environmental Protection Department.OPARK2 is the second organic resources recovery centre that adopts anaerobic digestion technology in Hong Kong to convert food waste into biogas for electricity  generation and fertilizer  as  by-product  for  landscaping  or  agricultural applications.With  the  great  effort  from  five  participants, involving  10  HKIBIM members,  BIMis  widely  promoted  amongst  internal  and  external  counterparts. Global  collaboration  via  BIM,  smart  construction  and  site  management system developed based on BIM, and investigation on integration of BIM and CIC-CATfor sustainable construction are three major innovative BIM Uses in OPARK2.

Three-runway system project – Fire Training Facility (Contract 3307) at Hong Kong International Airport

Clients, consultants and contractors exchange information according to digital process, BIM make the construction information more transparent.

The works covered by the Contract 3307 comprise the construction of a Fire Training Facility on the new reclamation area to replace the existing facility at the Airport Island. AAHK’s fire training facility forms a part in the 3RS projects to facilitate the need for firefighting training for 3RS at Hong Kong International Airport Island. The project includes the construction of three buildings for training facilities, ground pavement, extensive underground utilities and drainage works.

Hong Kong Baptist University – Jockey Club Campus of Creativity

Hong Kong Baptist University - Jockey Club Campus of Creativity is located at 30 Renfrew Road, Kowloon Tong. The building development comprising the construction of four 13 to 17-storey student hostels block and 4-storey academic building complex with associated external works.

A series of new & updated CIC BIM training and BIM standards related publications in 2021

In 2021, the CIC successfully developed a series of new and updated BIM training related and BIM Standards related publications for reference by the industry. 

Key publications include BIM Viewer Teaching and Learning Kits, BIM Guide for Generation of MEP Drawings for Statutory Submissions, BIM Special Conditions of Contract, BIM Services Agreement, and Report on 3D Spatial and BIM Data Use Case Requirements. 

All publications are available on CIC BIM Portal. We sincerely thank for the contribution by all Members of our Committee on BIM, Task Forces, Project Steering & Working Groups, Consultants & Contractors, as well as industry stakeholders.

China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (CSHK) started its construction business in Hong Kong in 1979. CSHK’s BIM department has over 90 dedicated BIM specialists to support BIM transformation across the organisation. Ms Chan Hoi Lun, Helen

Helen’s knowledge and experience span across multiple disciplines in civil construction projects, but where she shines is her specialized expertise in BIM. She is actively involved in digitalisation of construction processes and BIM management such as modeling standard, execution plan, family database etc. to adopt BIM in large-scale civil projects. With the knowledge of geomatics and integrated project delivery, she participates actively on the Civil BIM development and initiate the application of BIM on design, construction, surveying and quantity survey aspects. With years of BIM-focused experience under her belt, her notable works include the Three-runway System projects and West Kowloon Cultural District project with integration of BIM and other technologies. She currently serves as BIM manager of China State Construction Engineering Hong Kong Limited for 3RS project, 3310 North Runway Modification Works. Her commitment is to bridge the gap between BIM and key players throughout the project life cycle and to achieve continuous progress on both professional and personal fronts through all-round BIM and information management skills with emphasis on targets.

Mr Law Ka Keung, Mat

Mat Law started off his career as a BIM Modeller with a Consulting firm in 2008 and has climbed his way to managerial role to manage teams of BIM Engineers while with Construction firms till 2019. With perseverance, Mat has earned his undergraduate degree in 2014, majoring in Construction Management from Coventry University.  Heis now a Professional Member of HKIBIM, who has over 13 years of experience and knowledge of implementing BIM throughout the lifecycle of building and infrastructure projects in global regions. Since 2019, he has also attained the CIC-Certified BIM Manager with Construction Industry Council. 

Currently with Airport Authority Hong Kong, he works with a team of BIM Engineers and manages the Fire Fighting Facility of Three-Runway System Project (“3RS”). He is also part of the Client’s BIM team to manage the new Terminal 2 Concourse for 3RS Project. 

Some of the high-profile BIM projects Mat has participated include Dongdaemun Design Park, Pacific Place Contemporisation Project, Immigration Headquarters, Tuen Mun Public Housing, Science Park Project and many others.
 

[ Outstanding BIMer of the Year: Most Valuable BIMer of the Year Gold Award in HKIBIM Award 2021]
Mr HO Kwing Kwong, Alex

Prior to the current post of Assistant Director - Industry Development, Mr. Alex HO joined the Construction Industry Council (CIC) in 2017 as the Senior Manager and established the BIM Department in the CIC. 

Being the Head of the Department, he built a team of multi-disciplinary staff and worked closely with stakeholders of Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owner and Operator (AECOO) industry and Government bureaux/departments to formulate strategies for driving the adoption of BIM and deliver key initiatives, including promoting the use of BIM and related technologies in the construction industry, developing BIM training programmes for the various levels of BIM practitioners, defining industry-wide BIM standards and reference materials, establishing and implementing BIM Certification and Accreditation Schemes (BIMCAS) in Hong Kong, and leading relevant research initiatives. 

Through these initiatives, the CIC helps the construction industry to build the capacity and capability of BIM in Hong Kong and boost the adoption of BIM in projects and organisations for meeting the demand and challenges of the industry. 

 

[ Outstanding BIMer of the Year: Most Valuable BIMer of the Year Silver Award in HKIBIM Award 2021]
Dr Chan Kang Yuen, Neo

Dr. Neo CHAN is the founder of VIRCON Limited. He has been focusing and working on the execution of BIM since 2005. He is one of the BIM pioneers in HK in researching and providing BIM services and Virtual construction for A/E/C industry. From 2006 to 2011, he focused on his research studies on BIM and published several research papers. In 2011, he obtained his Ph.D. He currently manages over 200 BIM professionals and technical staff to execute more than 300 BIM projects. He led the company to run numerous projects to win Autodesk BIM Awards, including Building-SMART BIM Awards, CIC BIM achievements, and HKIBIM BIM Awards in 12 consecutive years since 2010. He is also an ISO 19650 specialist who assists the market in adopting the international BIM implementation standard.

He is a CIC Committee member on BIM, a BIM Assessment Panel member of CIC's BIM Personnel Certification and Training Course Accreditation Schemes, and a BIM Vetting Sub-committee member on CITF. He was the Chairman (2017-2019) of HKIBIM and was awarded the Young BIMer 2014 of the Year and Construction Industry Outstanding Young Person 2019 by the CIC. He has fully engaged himself in BIM development and promotion for the Hong Kong construction industry for over a decade.
